Last month, a Champaign County board member was arrested for driving under the influence after a Champaign County sheriff’s deputy says he witnessed him driving the wrong-way on U.S. 45 in Savoy. The officer stopped 31-year old Michael C. Richards at around 3:25 A.M. on January 27th.
The officer reported that he saw a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes of the four-lane highway and decided to pull it over. After pulling the vehicle over, the officer says he smelled alcohol on the board member’s breath. In addition, police reports state that Richards failed field sobriety tests.
Richards refused to submit a chemical breath test. He was charged with a Class A misdemeanor DUI and improper lane usage.
