George Harold Chapman, 41, of Champaign was arrested in South Carolina and charged with murder.
Chapman was charged with the murder of Angelica M. Vasquez, 43, of Danville, whose body was dumped in west Champaign on Sept 27. Authorities found the body on Rising Road just north of Bradley Avenue.
According to Lt. Ed Ogle of the Champaign County Sheriff’s department, the body was burned after the death and her hands were tied up. Ogle stated, “It looked like she had been beaten, and an autopsy confirmed she had been suffocated.”
Chapman was found and arrested at a home in Pomaria, SC after police received information from the crime lab linking DNA found on Vasquez’s body as Chapman.
