A 31-year-old man has entered a guilty plea to a Champaign County Judge in regards to a sexual assault charge that was filed against him.
The man admitted that in 2007 he had engaged in a sexual act with a female who was younger than 13. The young girl, who is now a teenager, revealed that the sexual abuse carried on for a span of four years. She informed her mother about the man, and she alerted local police.
When the police questioned the man, he revealed that he had indeed assaulted the girl. By pleading guilty to the single count of criminal sexual assault, the other charges against him were dropped. His sentencing is scheduled for June 18, and the maximum amount of time that he could spend behind bars is 40 years.
