On July 11, Judge Debra Nelson has allowed jurors in the George Zimmerman trial case to consider a manslaughter charge against 29-year-old George Zimmerman, who is accused of killing neighbor Trayvor Martin.
Prosecutor Richard Mantei said Zimmerman should also be tried for third-degree murder because Zimmerman’s shooting of Martin, who was 17 years old at the time of his death, could be constituted as child abuse; however, Judge Nelson ruled that this charge is not valid.
The six-person all-female jury can begin deliberating the verdict of the case as early as this Friday, July 12.
Zimmerman has constantly pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge.
