Twenty-six-year-old South African double-amputee marathon runner Oscar Pistorius, who claims he shot 30-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14 because he mistook her for an intruder in their house, was indicted on Monday, August 19 for murder and illegal possession of ammunition. He is set to undergo trial at the High Court in Pretoria, the South African capital. A judge will preside over the trial and declare Pistorius guilty or innocent, as South Africa doesn’t have trial by jury.
Prosecuting attorneys, who believed Pistorius attacked Steenkamp after an argument, submitted a list of 100 witnesses to the court.
According to a statement released by South Africa’s police commissioner, he and the team that worked on the investigation of Pistorius’ case, which included detectives, forensic, ballistics, and technology experts, and psychologists, believe they have all the data needed to convict Pistorius.
